Dystopia Rising uses Lightest Touch Combat. Lightest touch means you Only hit the person hard enough for them to register the blow. The goal is for Simulated Combat to be a fun, Safe and enjoyable experience. Any Violation of combat rules can result in your contact safe combat privileges being revoked.
Legal Striking Areas are the Chest, Back, Side, Legs, Shoulders and arms of your Target. Strikes to the Head, Neck, Groin, hands and feet are not legal and not allowed.
All strikes must be 90-degree swings save for two handed weapons which may be 45-degree swings. No swing may be more that 90-degrees
Unless you possess the florentine skill you may not swing more than three strikes in a row. After this you must pause for 1 second to disengage before striking. This is to prevent machine gunning. If a person keeps striking and doesn't take a full second to disengage, then the hits dont count. If someone is machine gunning feel free to state “Check your swings, machine gunning” and continue on.
During a three strike flurry, the first and second strike cannot strike the same location on the Target. If you would like to strike the same place twice in a row, you must pause for a second before reengaging.
If your strike is blocked in any way it is blocked. Do not try to push past a parry.
Weapon-trapping, ensnaring or holding another person’s weapon is not allowed.
You should Never have your arm between a shield user and their shield or reach over someone's shoulder.
Person to person contact mid conflict is not allowed at any time.
The following are local DRGA updates to the safety rules for Contact Safe Combat.
At no point should you thrust the tip of your weapon at someone.
You can not use your weapon or other device to physically prevent someone from closing the distance with you.
The combatant with the shortest reach sets the combat distance.
If you are advancing on someone and you have a shorter weapon it is your responsibility to stop before you get too close to them. If your opponent is forced to move out of the way to prevent physical contact you are the one charging.
When you are engaged in combat with someone you should never close to a distance that you are able to reach out and touch them with the tips of your fingers.
If you feel that someone has closed to an unsafe distance to you feel free to call “Check your swings, Charging”
If someone is advancing to engage with you and steps to the side of your weapon to advance within their weapon range do not bring the tip of your weapon back in front of them without also giving ground. This can create unsafe situations such as an accidental thrust.
