Writer Application

So you want to write for Dystopia Rising: Georgia? Great! We are looking to gear up for a new stretch of stories, and need your help to tell them. The first step is submitting an Application to us, letting us know a little about you so that we know if you’d be a good fit for our team.

  • Writers work with the Experience Design Directors to ensure that each event is filled with content and that the content of each event is cohesive and coherent.

  • This is an annual position, with payment for mods completed/approved.

  • While Writers are not required to be field guides, we strongly encourage writers to become field guides so that they get experience running mods for live games which will then inform their writing, and let them know what is feasible.

Writer Process

  • Story Arcs

    • The Directors will have a series of arcs planned for the year, which in turn inform the content of events.

  • Event Expectations

    • For each event, Directors will provide the Writers with mod prompts related to either the ongoing arcs or player submissions.

    • Writers will create mods based on these prompts (2+) which will be reviewed/approved prior to event.

      • Mods are due at latest a week in advance of a given event.

      • Director requested changes to mods are due the Wednesday before a given event at the latest.

      • Directors have the final word on content, and are empowered to make changes to mods.

  • Outside Assigned Prompts

    • If a Writer wants to submit an idea for content outside a prompt such as casted NPCs, Local ZOMs, Local Plot Items, Local procedures, local threat, and random (i.e. unprompted) mods, can do so through the Writer Content Submission form.

      • Directors will review submissions on a rolling basis and make changes to planned content as needed.

  • Meetings

    • Attend the bi-monthly content assignment meetings or make other arrangements with the Directors to get assigned writing prompts. Because honestly, easier to hash stuff in a voice call than through a block of text, faster too!
