Research Mechanics

Knowledge, But At What Cost?


During the game, characters will be able to submit yes or no questions to the plot team and receive a relatively quick turnaround on answers. It follows the theme of established medical research mechanics.

Characters will also be able to make use of this Zone of Mechanics to help them in gaining Blueprints by contributing research, details at the bottom of this page!

Mechanics
Chosen Skill
- Any skill can be used to conduct Research (not just Education!) as long as it relates to the questions you intend to ask. Have fun with it!  i.e. Roleplaying “Hunting” at town's edge if trying to learn more about local wildlife.

Active Roleplay - 20 Minutes of Active Roleplay conducting Research, any skill use interrupts this timer and it must be restarted. Cannot stack with other skill use. i.e. Cannot actively use Foraging while doing your Active Roleplay for Research (even if the research is based off your Foraging). 

Research Questions

Questions Need to be in regards to the DRGA Setting and Plots (i.e. can't ask questions about other chapters or national content)
Base Questions At base, everyone can ask at least 1 Question.
Max Questions There are other ways to increase the maximum number of Questions you can ask as detailed below.  You are not required to ask all questions you are eligible for.

Education Your level of education adds to your Max Questions. 

Basic is +1, Proficient is +2, Master is +3. You only claim the highest of these bonuses.

Lore If you have a Lore you feel is applicable to your Research, you get +1 Max Question. This is entirely up to you and does not require approval from staff. Be inventive, have fun with it, but find a story way to explain it!

Achievements If you have an Achievement you feel is applicable to your Research, you get +1 Max Question. This is entirely up to you and does not require approval from staff. Be inventive, have fun with it, but find a story way to explain it!

Mind Expenditure

Not spent until the Research timer is completed, important!

5 Mind Spent per yes/no question.

Virtual Players would utilize this Submission Form.

Live Players fill out a Research form and submit it to the Post.

Some questions simply can’t be answered by research except in the most extreme of circumstances. 

I.e. Is the Wyrm ticklish?

At Plot Team’s discretion, some answers may be more than a simple yes/no.

Virtual

Research responses will be posted in the Research Results channel in Post on the event Discord. 

Answers will be anonymous, so information is shared but names will be left off. 

Live

Research answers would be available at Post, players are encouraged to check back in now and again. Responses will be public and placed in a research journal.


C.O.K.E. Research Z.O.M.

The Collective of Kinetic Energy is always hungry for knowledge!

Any Lead Character can spend 20 minutes and 1 Resolve or 20 Mind researching and drawing/writing their ideas on how a print / item / undead / creature / other in the wastes functions. At the end of the 20 minutes submit your paperwork to Public Works. In Exchange C.O.K.E rewards the LC with an available blueprint of the LC’s choice. This ZoM can only be used by a character once per event, cannot be used to obtain Outsider or Murder Inc Blueprints.

C.O.K.E. Research Projects

When a new discovery reaches new heights!

Sometimes over the course of conducting research, C.O.K.E. will put some pieces together and decide to submit a request for additional focused research, often to help cement the beginnings of a new local blueprint or procedure.

These Research Projects will be sent into town by a C.O.K.E. representative, and will have a number of research actions required to complete in order to submit a research packet in response to C.O.K.E. for the new knowledge. The Research Projects will have their own instructions, but function similarly to the above Research Mechanics.

But wait, there’s MORE!

Due to players current relationship with Ottomans, the Collective is willing to assist with these Research projects.

Each Ottoman’s ABC spent during the Research Project will count as 5 Research Actions, waiving the time and mind cost associated with those actions.
