Local Threats

There are threats that are encountered all over the wastes and then, there are some that haunt the locals. Here you will find descriptions and enough information to recognize some of the local antagonist threats seen in the 40Watt area. Note that specific stats and characteristics are not included here, as they are discoverable in game and communicated amongst players.

"There are some odd new zed out in these swamps, seem like some sort of mix between the endless horde and predatory type zed and...somethin' stranger. All their eyes are wrong somehow, and they seem to really respond more to sound than sight.”

“They can be really sneaky too, almost stepped on one once!"

  • “Most numerous type are these Soggy boys as we've taken to calling them. They don't move too quick, but are fond of breaking through our defenses.”

  • “Then we sometimes saw this disgusting as hell type we've taken to calling Sodden Spitters. I don't think I need to much elaborate on how they bring the pain”

  • “Lastly...if you hear singing out in the swamp? Run. Once something showed up, spotted us. It screamed and made all the other zed fifty times more dangerous. Locals called it a Swamp Siren when we described it. Thinking about it still gives me chills”

Dead Ringers

(Art Pending!)

“There’s something wrong with those fucking things. Like they forgot they are undead. Fuck with your brain crystals and make it like you are someone else, some other strain entirely for a little while, layered on top of who you are. Then they twist that, and you end up forgetting who you really are and turn on your people. It’s horrible.”

“Like a community but through the twisted mirror that is the Mortis.”

  • “Look, there are these new undead around, Shards I hear they have been called. Creepy things, they’ll shuffle up to you like a people, even sit and warm their hands at a fire. Right up until they try to tear you in half.”

  • “Where those Shards could be mistaken for a strain if you don’t notice the purple veins at first, no such mistake with Harmonizers. They have the veins all over, and they can…make you feel like not yourself, like you are some other strain…and then turn it against you? it’s fucking weird!”

  • “Fuckin tragic. These pop out when someone perms, and only then. It is likely one of the most vicious last walks I’ve seen. Like there is still a semblance of who that person used to be, but twisted by the Mortis and about to hit you like a DJ ride with busted brakes. Petrol was the first…I don’t think he’ll be the last.”

Grave Lights

(Art Pending!)

“Ever since the Outsiders destroyed the two morgues at Savage Anne and the City on the Hill these strange lights have been appearing late at night almost calling to viewers to follow them into the darkness”

  • “At first they stayed on the edges of settlements but have been seen moving in closer. I hear they cause local disturbances to power in an area and abberrants start to feel odd effects around them.”

“Strains will start to hear noises, feel sensations and experiences around them. Some folks have been seen to follow them out into the woods.

  • When a strain touches the orb of light, they will feel an intense pain throughout their arm and body. They will suddenly feel their heart stop and their vision goes black. Any one watching sees them fall to the ground and their corpse rapidly decomposes.

Once a player or players touch the orb, they will take the following effects: Agony, take a fracture, immediately sink into the Gravemind for a mortis amaranthine scene (the character does not lose an infection from this scene).

Grave Pits

(Art Pending!)

“You know what happens if you get your shit kicked in, and then denied supper? Yea. That’s what the Gravemind has been doin, opening up these pits everywhere and taking back it’s due. It’s hungry and its pissed.”

  • “The ground in the Grave Pit is softer than the surrounding area. A black tar-like substance oozes into the impressions left by your footsteps. When you step into the area you feel the hair on your arms stand up and must continue shifting your feet so that you don’t sink ankle-deep into the muck. You feel that something wants to pull you down into the cavernous earth. It’s fuckin rough”

  • Any Strain or Undead that is in bleedout while in the Area will immediately have their bleedout counter reduced to Zero and then Sink into the Mortis Amarthine for a Post Death Scene. This is not considered a cannibalize effect or killing blow
